For the past week I have been in Australia spending time with family. My father turns 80 this month so we had a family reunion.
On Saturday morning we enjoyed fun time at the yearly 'Family Fun Fair'. Mum has for a number of years, put this on to recognize the birthdays of all the grandchildren and now great grandchildren. With 48+ grandchildren and 47+ great-grandchildren this is a great way to remember everyone.
Saturday night was spent once again surrounded by family at a surprise birthday dinner for dad. Everyone was on alert just in case he got too much of a surprise and ended up having a heart attack.
It was a beautiful evening surrounded by friends and family. We did a 'This is your life' for dad where many memories were shared and many tears were shed. Of course we knew that tears would always be part of the evening. Dad has a tender heart and often chokes up over happy things. As the evening was being planned we all kind of knew where dad would choke up. We knew as soon as he walked in and realized this was for him....tears. When he saw the beautiful cake that was made for him and had our family crest on it.....tears. When he saw the powerpoint presentation prepared for him....tears. I love my father's gentle, loving heart.
I should also mention that among the tears there was and is always MUCH laughter. Oh my goodness the laughter. There is little I enjoy more than sitting around my family and laughing. My crazy, funny family.
(This photo is of mum, dad and all us kids. This is the first time in many years that we have all been in the same place.)
